Etymologically, psychology comes from the word “psyche” which means soul or breath of life and “logos” which means knowledge. Seeing of the meaning of the word is as if psychology is the science of the soul or the science of learning about the soul. If we refer to one of the requirements of science that is the object being studied, then it is not correct if we interpret the soul of psychology as a science or science of learning about life, because life is something that is abstract and can not be observed directly. psychology would be interpreted as a science of learning about individual behavior in interacting with their environment.
Psychology is divided into two parts, namely general psychology (general psychology) that examine the behavior in general and special psychology which studies the behavior of individuals in specific situations, including :
- Developmental Psychology: Examine the behavior of individuals who are in the process of development starting from the time of conception until the end of life.
- Personality Psychology : Examine the behavior of specific individuals seen from the aspect -aspect of his personality.
- Clinical psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals for purposes of healing (clinical) abnormal psychology; examine the behavior of individuals who are classified as abnormal.
- Industrial Psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals in relation to the industrial world.
- Educational Psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals in the educational situation
nice posting. :)
BalasHapusit gives me a new paradigm of psychology.
great..
but, I really want to ask you a question.
you said that psychology is a science of learning about individual behavior in interacting with their environment. but in my opinion, psychology isn't talk about that only.
I think psychology is trying to define "people" itself. It linked with people's thought, their reasons of doing somethings, their physical condition, such as hormone(which in extreme condition can really influence , or even control someone's act) and so many more.
What do you think about this?.
Good blog.. ^^
BalasHapusCan i ask a question ?
What is the purpose of dividing psychology into two parts ?
@steven: I think you are right. What you are talking about is enter to the individual behavior which will link with their interact with their environment.
BalasHapus@Denny: So it can be more specific. Because if we only see in general psychology we can not study more specific and if we study just specific psychology, many problems will not be cleared.
