Psychology and Education

Another definition for educational is a systematic study of the processes and factors related to education. From the boundaries of the above shows that there is a very strong link between the psychology of education by action learning. Therefore not surprising that some educational psychologists mentioned that the main field of study is about studying educational psychology. In other words, educational psychology focusing on issues related to process issues and factors associated with action learning.

Because of its concentration on learning problems, the main consumers of this educational psychology in general is on the educators.

Education can not be separated from psychology. Contribution of psychology to education is enormous. Educational activities, especially in formal education, such as curriculum development, teaching and learning processes, evaluation systems, and guidance and counseling services are some of the main activities in educational psychology in which the need.

Education as an activity in which involved many people, including students, teachers, adminsitrator, community and parents of students. Therefore, that educational goals can be achieved effectively and efficiently, then everyone involved in education should be able to understand about the behavior of individuals at the same time can show their behavior effectively.

Educational Psychology

Educational psychology as a science can be said because the inside has had a science requirement criteria, namely:
Ontologically : Object of education is the behavioral psychology of individual behavior that directly or indirectly involved with education, such as students, teachers, administrators, parents, learners and community education.
Epistemological : Theory of theories, concepts of concepts, principles and propositions - propositions educational psychology generated by systematic efforts through a variety of longitudinal studies or cross sectional studies, both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Axiological : Benefit from educational psychology in particular with respect to achieving efficiency and effectiveness of the educational process.

Thus, educational psychology can be interpreted as one branch of psychology that specifically examine the behavior of individuals within the context of the educational situation with a view to finding a variety of facts, generalizations and theories related to educational psychology theory, which was obtained through a specific scientific method, in order to achieve the effectiveness of the process of education.

About Psychology

Etymologically, psychology comes from the word “psyche” which means soul or breath of life and “logos” which means knowledge. Seeing of the meaning of the word is as if psychology is the science of the soul or the science of learning about the soul. If we refer to one of the requirements of science that is the object being studied, then it is not correct if we interpret the soul of psychology as a science or science of learning about life, because life is something that is abstract and can not be observed directly. psychology would be interpreted as a science of learning about individual behavior in interacting with their environment.


Psychology is divided into two parts, namely general psychology (general psychology) that examine the behavior in general and special psychology which studies the behavior of individuals in specific situations, including :
  • Developmental Psychology: Examine the behavior of individuals who are in the process of development starting from the time of conception until the end of life.
  • Personality Psychology : Examine the behavior of specific individuals seen from the aspect -aspect of his personality.
  • Clinical psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals for purposes of healing (clinical) abnormal psychology; examine the behavior of individuals who are classified as abnormal.
  • Industrial Psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals in relation to the industrial world.
  • Educational Psychology : Examine the behavior of individuals in the educational situation
